Bis is a resources logistics company that provides logistics, materials handling, specialist underground equipment, and consulting services to some of the biggest mining companies across Australia.

Challenges
  • Bis was using manual processes to build complex shift schedules, track employee time, and apply a wide range of enterprise agreement rules. This was time consuming and created a multitude of issues for the business.
  • Without access to real-time data, it was difficult for management to adjust rostering to accommodate peaks and troughs in workload –  adding unnecessary labour costs and making it difficult to forecast staff requirements.
  • Managing compliance obligations was cumbersome too, with many manual processes and different people in the business touching the payroll process.
  • If employee timesheets couldn’t be found and the employee was unreachable or on leave, Site Administrators would need to conduct a manual pay run at a later date – slowing down productivity, creating inefficiencies, and creating a negative experience for the employee.
  • Work billed to Bis’ customers was split across different work sites, experience levels, job sizes, and contractual agreements so manual calculation of invoices was time consuming and billing customers in a timely manner was challenging.
